Annexure 19—Aviation Safety Management: Your Guide to Risk & Compliance
Being a pilot, it's your responsibility to know the rules and regulations for safe transportation.
ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that sets global standards for aviation safety, security, efficiency, and environmental protection. ICAO was established in 1944 under the Chicago Convention but was properly formed in 1947 and is headquartered in Montreal, Canada.
Now, let’s dive into all the annexures:
- Annex 1: Pilot licensing
- Annex 2: Rules of the Air (I’ve divided sections to remember it easily; consider you’re going to drive a vehicle for your vacation; what’s the most important thing you should have? License, and how you’ll fly: with sets of rules and regulations
- Annex 3: Meteorological Services (MET-3 word letter, from here again a division, i.e., to drive a car, you need a map, check the weather)
- Annex 4: Aeronautical Charts (if you know Hindi, you can remember it through 4 in Hindi, chaar, or you’ll look for the map to locate nearby places)
- Annex 5: Dimension Units (you’ll check the dimensions of your bag to fit into the vehicle)
- Annex 6: Operation of Aircraft (You can either remember it by 6E of Indigo or your pre-departure preparation for your vacation to decide on the vehicle).
- Annex 7: Aircraft nationality and registration marks (your paperwork for your vehicles)
- Annex 8: Airworthiness of Aircraft (remember yin-yang to decide and judge the place of your vacation)
- Annex 9: Facilitation (Once you reach the place, you need a facility to stay, like hostels, hotel rooms, etc.)
- Annex 10: Aeronautical Telecommunications (ten-tel, ten-tel, or don’t forget to keep emergency contact for your safety)
- Annex 11: Air Traffic Services (Finally, hit the road but got stuck in traffic.)
- Annex 12: Search and rescue (two cars crashed into each other; search and rescue started for both drivers)
- Annex 13: Aircraft Accident Investigation (Police came by to investigate the matter)
- Annex 14: Aerodromes (Finally, green light signalled, drove and crossed the airport.)
- Annex 15: Aeronautical information services (Reached the destination, now asking nearby for my facility information or AIS similar to A15.)
- Annex 16: Environmental protection (whatever destination you’ve picked it up for yourself: beach or mountain, what’s near the facility)
- Annex 17: Security (check for hotel security guard and other facilities OR 17 = khatra)
- Annex 18: Transport of Dangerous Goods (put everything on charging, mobile, power bank)
- Annex 19: Safety Management (For emergencies, look for the nearest exit behind the room and enjoy your vacation).
I’ve covered everything, and I hope it’ll be easy for you to remember it now. By remembering the sequence of your vacation, you can further divide it for your ease.
